Shot blasting and surface preparation
Blasting establishes the surface profile that a coating has to bond to. MFI runs four blast methods across parts ranging from bulk hardware to heavy hanging work.
Abrasive is driven against the part to strip scale, sand, rust and residue and to leave a controlled surface profile. The abrasive and the machine are selected to suit the part: a heavy forging runs on a spinner hanger, while a tray of small stampings runs on a tumble blast.
What you get
- Spinner hanger blasting for parts unsuitable for tumbling, with load capacity up to 2,000 lb per hook
- Tumble blasting for bulk material with small geometries
- Grit shot blasting using steel shot ground fine enough to look and feel like sand, which cleans steel after heat treatment
- Stainless and glass bead blasting to smooth, roughen, shape or clean a surface

Load the work hung, tumbled or tabled to suit the part
Blast to the specified surface condition
Dust removal and inspection
Transfer directly to the next process or package
